In short
  • We only collect what you type into our forms, and only to do what the form says.
  • We never sell or rent your data, and we show no advertising.
  • Your email address and phone number are never shown on the site.
  • Google Analytics runs only if you click “Accept” in the cookie banner.
  • You can ask us to see, correct or delete your data at any time.

Who we are

This website, maqboolbhat.com, is run by the Maqbool Bhat Foundation (MBF), a project of the Kashmir Record & Research Council (KRRC). We are based in Sweden and are responsible for the personal data collected through this site. The EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) applies to it. To contact us about privacy, use the contact form and write “Privacy” as the subject.

To stop spam, our forms keep a scrambled code made from your internet address (IP) for up to one day. It cannot be turned back into the address. Forms are also protected by Cloudflare Turnstile, a privacy-friendly check that replaces “I am not a robot” puzzles.

Our legal basis

For the newsletter, for showing your name or organisation publicly, and for Google Analytics, we rely on your consent, which you can withdraw at any time. For the petition, endorsements, submissions and messages, we use your data because you asked us to (to count your signature, publish your event or reply to you). For security and spam protection, we rely on our legitimate interest in keeping the site safe.

Cookies and storage on your device

Always on (no tracking)

The site remembers a few choices in your browser: your language, night mode, accessibility settings and your cookie choice. These stay on your device and are not used to track you.

Only with your consent: Google Analytics

If you click “Accept”, Google Analytics counts which pages are read. We have switched off advertising features and Google signals, and IP addresses are shortened. If you click “No thanks”, Google Analytics does not load. You can change your choice at any time with “Cookie settings” at the bottom of every page.

Cloudflare Web Analytics

We also use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which counts visits without cookies and without building a profile of you.

Services we use

  • Cloudflare: protects and speeds up the site, blocks attacks, runs Turnstile and Web Analytics.
  • Websupport: hosts the website and our email in the European Union.
  • Google: Google Fonts (letters for Urdu and other scripts), Google Analytics (only with consent) and Google Drive (backup copies of the site).
  • YouTube and Vimeo: videos load only when you press play. We use YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode and Vimeo’s “do not track” setting.
  • OpenStreetMap: the map tiles on our maps.
  • GTranslate: machine translation when you choose a language other than English, Urdu or Hindi.

Some of these companies are outside your country. When data goes outside the European Union, they use the legal safeguards required by data protection law.

How long we keep your data

We keep petition signatures for as long as the campaign to return Maqbool Bhat’s remains continues. Newsletter details are kept until you unsubscribe, using the link in every email. Endorsements, events, reports and artwork are kept while they are published or needed for the archive. Contact messages are kept only as long as needed to answer you. You can ask us to delete your data sooner.

Your rights

You can ask us to show you the data we hold about you, correct it, delete it, limit how we use it, or give you a copy. You can withdraw your consent at any time. Send your request through the contact form. We will answer within one month. If you are not happy with our answer, you can complain to the Swedish Authority for Privacy Protection, Integritetsskyddsmyndigheten (IMY), at imy.se, or to the data protection authority in the country where you live.

Children

Our forms are meant for people aged 16 and over. If you are younger, please ask a parent or guardian before sending us your details.

Changes

If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page.
